Since I’ve been gone for two days without any posting (which I do regret) I am going to explain what kept me away.
Kindle.
Yes, I do understand that there is a whole dilemma over switching to e-books, but take my word for it, it is worth it. Even though I do love that feel, the certain satisfaction of flipping the page, closing the book when it’s done…this way is much easier on my wallet. Also, my shoulders aren’t taking a beating either.
Now I’ve read about the kindle itself (or nook, or whatever reading platform you may go with) and it comes with plenty of options. Amazon boasts that it has 725,000 books available. I am not going to list them all. As a matter of fact, I’m sure that you know that you can get Wi-Fi, 3g, kindle DX, e ink pearl because you’ve been the advertisements on the TV or on amazon occasionally when you decide to go the route of online shopping.
On the other hand, you may just decide to go “screw that” and download the free app onto your pc, phone, iPad, mac, which is what I did. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the kindle is crap, I’m saying that I’m a poor college student who can’t afford one at the moment. In the future though, there is a good chance that I will buy one. For now though, we bond through my laptop; especially with the free literature.
Free books? Indeed! Amazon regularly posts the 100 top free books it has, and there are mounds more to find. Right when I downloaded the app I got to work on finding some of my favorite classics are free. Most books you can download on kindle are cheaper that actually getting it in the paper form and you don’t need to worry about having it shipped to you either.
Now I am going to take a moment and talk to the rest of the poor college students. I know it is you who noticed the word free the most. Yes, kindle app is free. Yes, there are many free books. Yes, you can find your textbooks cheaper on here. And yes, your shoulders will thank you for the change. It even comes with an oxford dictionary built in so that if you need a reference from that great book, just click on the word and it’ll pop up in the bottom-left corner. There is also a highlight feature and a notes feature so that your notes are in the book and in the area which you would need to reference them. Honestly, I am in love with this.
In my experience, no college teacher has ever required for me to have it handwritten on paper. Thus, my laptop goes everywhere with me. I have all my notes, my work, and now my textbooks with me all in one place, very easy to carry, and everything is backed up so I don’t lose it. As long as you don’t delete the book off of your purchases, you can download it to your new computer, your phone, anything, just as long as it’s registered to your kindle. It is every student’s best friend.
Now how do you get this? Just go to amazon’s website and it will have kindle on the main page, with three options underneath; shop kindle books, download the app, and shop accessories. Your first move will be choosing the kindle or app, but we’re going with the app, here. Click on that option, and then you will be taken to a page that shows you what your options are as far as platform goes. Click on whichever you want it on, and it will give your instructions on how to download it. Afterward, you’re golden! Just go search for books and enjoy.
That way you too will disappear for days on end.
